The Günzburger Nahrungsmittelfabrik was established 1932 by Josef Strehle as a chicory factory. At that time chicory coffee was an product in every household in Germany and also in Europe households can't manage without it. Chicory coffee wasn't only used for blending with malt, barley and coffee, but also for colouring sauces and beverages.

A changing time happened during the World War II. An already finished suitable for brewing beverage was produced in which the raw materials barley, ray, chicory, malt and figs were mixed. Consequently a lot of time could be saved by housewives because they needn't mix the product at home. This product was above all more productive, because it was far better ground and therefore more timesaving and easier to prepare.

 
 

1953/54 the traditional coffee substitute was produced in instant quality for the first time. This instant coffee surrogate changed the hole market situation on the manufacturing side as well as on the outlet. The new product, called the "Landkaffee" had all advantages on its side. It wasn't only easier to handle, more modern and seasonable but also in its taste progressive. Certainly this product will develop in the following years.
